About Me
I've lived in Acton since moving here with my wife Holly in August of 2001. I'm a software engineer at KAYAK where I have worked for nearly 10 years, having worked at Motorola and IBM before that. I've worked in the Computer Tech industry my whole career after graduating from Boston University in 1997.
Holly and I were married on August 4th, 2001, right before moving to Acton. Since residing in West Acton on Ticonderoga Rd, we have had four kids, Jason Jr (15), Grace (13), Helen (11), and Faith (10).
Anyone that's interacted with Acton Boxborough Youth Soccer in the last decade has interacted with my wife Holly who has acted as the registrar. Since the pandemic hit in 2020 Holly has felt drawn to the school and has worked as a teacher's assistant and substitute teacher at Douglas. I've been grateful for this opportunity for her as it really suits her nurturing personality.
Some quick highlights about my children, as I could go on and on.
Jason Jr is active in Boy Scouts only one rank away from Eagle Scout and loves both the outdoors and his video games. Jason is also a hobbyist photographer and has taken some pretty cool shots of the MBTA and also participates in the weekend youth activities at Acton TV, where he writes, produces, and films various video shorts.
Grace has a passion for sports, with Soccer being her first love but open to trying all sorts of sports and activities. Grace also has taken to the tech crew in theater, helping out with the fall productions of Guys and Dolls Jr. and Oliver Jr. at R.J. Grey.
Helen, an avid gymnast spends many hours in the gym each week practicing her flips, spins, and tumbles. If you were lucky you recently saw her as Lumiere in the production of Beauty and The Beast at Theatre with a Twist
Faith, my youngest is my wild child. She follows in many of her siblings' footsteps without the same dedication, but we're excited to see where she will put her focus. She too was in Beauty and The Beast and is on the Gymnastics Team and also played on a town soccer team in the fall.
Acton has been such an awesome environment for my kids. There is just so much opportunity here for them to try all manner of extra-curricular activities. Such varied experiences have encouraged me to volunteer where I could and I've seized the opportunity where It makes sense (I'm not giving anyone singing lessons).
This has quite clearly been the highlight of my life in Acton: working with the youth in various capacities. Please review the sections below for more information in the various areas I've enjoyed working with our town's greatest resources.
Sports:
Coaching with AB Youth Baseball; I love occasionally reminding the now teenagers that I was the one who taught them to throw.
Coaching with AB Youth Soccer, where I still serve on the board as a division director and secretary. I coached the same group of girls for many years, which was a very fulfilling experience helping them develop into confident young ladies on the pitch.
Mountain biking with the Gnargonauts, a local mountain biking club, where I hang on to the back of the pack, trying to keep up with the much more skilled riders but assisting with tire changes or providing snacks (jelly beans) as needed!
For over 7 years I facilitated an exercise program called Mileage Makers at Douglas (2013 up until 2020), a casual before-school run / walk program for the kids to have fun moving with their friends
Scouts:
A committee member and assistant Cub master with Cub Scouts.
Assistant Scoutmaster with BSA Troop 284. We're heading out to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and I'm excited to spend 10 days in the wilderness with some fine young men.
It's no surprise that there is a disproportionate amount of people in town that are serving on various boards that are also affiliated with Scouting organizations, as I have witnessed the impact that BSA has had on Jason Jr and Girl Scouts has had on my girls. Support these organizations.
Faith:
Faith is important to our family, and we've been faithful church-goers since moving to Acton, having attended St. Elizabeth's for many years and now attending Faith Evangelical Free Church on Hosmer St.
I'm currently a leader with the Realife Youth Group at Faith Evangelical Free Church, working with teens in a faith organization is a singular experience.
As part of missions teams, I've had the opportunity to serve in Haiti with the Hope for the Children of Haiti organization which runs an orphanage and school in Port-a-Prince, the capital. Spin through the pictures below to see a picture of the 2019 team with the kids that reside in the orphanage.
I've enjoyed acting in the annual (when not constrained by Covid) living nativity Journey To Bethlehem, and seeing many fellow residents of Acton from behind the character of a Jewish scribe, a Map Maker from Nain (see below) or as a guide on the journey.
