School Committee
As a devoted parent in Acton, I understand that our town's greatest treasures are our children and educators. ABRHS is a national leader, ranked at #338 out of 18,000 high schools, and consistently placing in the top percentile in our state. Our student population is incredibly diverse with 5,000 enrolled students between Acton and Boxborough. Half of our student body are considered minorities and close to 400 students are multi-language learners (~7%). We have high expectations for these students and their academic experiences.
However, our education system is facing considerable financial challenges. In the past two years budget constraints have led to the loss of approximately 30 full-time equivalent positions and a redefinition of teacher's assistant roles, creating a tangible impact on our schools. This year our town is going to be voting for a significant tax override due to the 2 1/2 prop override guidelines. For more information on the tax override from the town of Acton, click here.
To address these challenges, we need passionate individuals who value public education and are committed to exploring the issues thoroughly. Critical thinking is vital, as our public education system must be flexible and adaptable to cater to diverse learning styles and demographics and a changing social landscape. Our primary objective remains unchanged: to provide a comprehensive education that equips our youth for success in their chosen paths. Whether that path is higher education or other fulfilling endeavors, we must work to maintain our high standards of education while supporting our teachers and staff.
